KYOTO INTERNATIONAL FILM AND ART FESTIVAL 2022

Iriomote Island was registered as a World Natural Heritage site in the summer of 2021. The documentary film, Seiseiruten, which portrays the abundant nature as represented by the Iriomote cat and the people who live with it over a period of three years, continues to attract a quiet buzz even after a year has passed since its release. This special edition is a re-edited version with new scenes focusing on the life of Kinsei Ishigaki, a local historian of Iriomote Island, who was the main character of Seiseiruten and passed away suddenly in June 2022. The story of Kinsei, who loved the island where he was born and raised and lived like the sea, mountains, and water, makes those of us living today question what it means for people to live a natural life.
